Ways of Giving ( See Planned Giving )

The Society of Toxicology (SOT) knows that each donor considers a gift decision through the prism of his or her own goals and objectives. Accordingly, we offer the convenience and flexibility of multiple gift options, each returning specific benefits. While outright gifts are most immediately helpful to SOT, donors may make a contribution in several other ways. These “planned” gifts strengthen SOT’s financial future, while also returning significant tax, estate planning, and other financial benefits to donors and their families.

The tax advantages of planned gifts encourage and enable contributors to make significantly larger gifts to SOT than they had thought possible. These gifts will support essential programs at SOT, and help ensure that the society continues its tradition of excellence in caring for its members.

Our Office of Development welcomes the opportunity to meet with you and your advisors to discuss how you can include SOT in your charitable plans. Of course, all information discussed will be held in the strictest of confidence.

Gifts Of Cash
Cash is the simplest medium for a donation, and it provides immediate benefits to SOT. Your gift can be made to us outright, or can fund one of our life income arrangements (see Planned Gifts, below).

Pledges
Rather than making a lump-sum gift of cash, you may prefer to spread your payments out over a number of years with a pledge. A pledge may allow you to contribute more significantly to SOT than might otherwise be possible, while extending tax advantages over a period of several years.

Appreciated Securities
Making a gift of stocks, bonds or mutual fund shares that are worth more now than what you originally paid for them can deliver more tax benefits to you than using cash. More information can be found under Planned Gifts.

Matching Gifts
If your employer matches your charitable gifts, the result can often be a double or triple contribution to SOT. Review your employee benefits or call the Office of Development for more assistance.

Planned Gifts

You can partner with SOT for a gift that benefits you as well as us. Here are some ways we can help you give wisely:

  • You don't have to use cash to make your gift -- you can give us appreciated securities or other property instead, and use an asset that cost you less than the tax deduction you'll get for it today.
  • You may be holding assets that would benefit us more than they do you -- such as a life insurance policy that you no longer need, a second home or undeveloped land, or a collection of books or artwork that you no longer have room to display.
  • You can make a gift that costs you nothing during your lifetime - make us a beneficiary of your will or revocable trust, or a beneficiary of your retirement plan, and leave your cash flow and current financial planning uninterrupted.
  • You can share an asset with us -- you can deed us your home but continue to live there, you can sell us property at a charitable discount, you can make a gift that pays you lifetime income.
